Gorgeous Washington Street
A Conceptual design study of the Washington Street
and Parlor City Commons public open spaces, within the core of BinghamtonÕs
Court Street Historic District. Project seen as a means to beautify downtown
Binghamton by capitalizing on its historic character, enhancing the pedestrian
environment, and incorporating public art to promote the return of business and
social activity.
Design concept includes sustainable plantings, a gateway arch, pavement repairs,
period lighting, seating, ornamental ironwork, sculpture pods, and accommodation
for cafˇs and public markets.
Final report identifies recommended furnishings, estimate of private and public
costs, an action agenda, and list of potential funding sources. A planting plan
was prepared for the first phase of improvements to be implemented by the City
in spring 2002. Numerous meetings and presentations. |
