Teaoga Square

Historic downtown plaza planned and designed to serve as a community-wide focal point and to encourge the viability of Athen's main business district. The brick paved plaza features a Victorian-era bandstand, reflective of the local architectural style. Benches, cafe-style tables and chairs, period lighting and colorful plantings grace the space. Adjacent Municipal parking lot was also redesigned for function and safety gaining 30% more spaces. RIRA Grant administered to fund 50% of construction observation. Designed to maximize circulation, historic fit, and a variety of public programs, the Teaoga Square has brought focus, economic development, and activity back to downtown. The name comes from Native American title for Athens "teaogo diahoga", which when translated means "the meeting place".
