Horseheads Residence
Haas Landscape Architect’s managed design development through
construction review for this 1970’s private residence uniquely settled
adjacent to a farmer’s field with beautiful views within a suburban
subdivision. The design focused on rear and side yard site
improvements and aesthetic enhancements to the existing deck and
home façade. The existing deck was modified and expanded to
accommodate a grilling area, seating and a transition to the
intermediate spa deck and lower patio. Much consideration was
given to color and material selection, allowing customization and
personalization. The deck was embellished with modern composite
wood materials, a custom railing and stone-wrapped columns, with
storage below. A boulder outcrop and stone veneered wall were used
in combination to retain grades and provide garden spaces to add
character and intimacy to the multi-level design solution. Stairs,
walls, and paving were planned to maximize spatial uses.
The in-ground pool was sited with a patterned pavement surround, which was personalized by the homeowner with stamping and coloring. A future pool cover, to extend the swimming season through winter, was researched and accommodated by providing anchors in the pavement. A fire pit and storage shed were also added at the lower patio. Views to neighboring farm were maintained to complement the setting. |
