The Story Garden
The Junior League of Binghamton has created a children's garden which is interactive, imaginative, inviting, creative, and safe. The Story Garden offers 13 vignettes focused on literary themes and provides opportunities for educational programming in association with the Discovery Center. The mission of The Story Garden is to spark the imagination through interactive experiences with images from favorite stories, encourage the reading of children's literature, and foster a love and appreciation of gardens. Community-supported through generous donations of materials and services. Grants in excess of $150,000 were obtained by the Junior League to cover construction costs exceeding $350,000.
HLA provided paved paths, play equipment that complies with current safety guidelines, a gathering space for performance, and a second gathering space for educational classes or snacks. HLA provided the creative Master Plan & guided the design process through construction drawings and review services.
HLA received the 2008 ASLA New York Upstate Chapter Community Achievement Award for noteworthy contribution to the landscape.
