Confluence Park

Passive open space capitalizes on the natural beauty of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers in downtown Binghamton. The hub of a network of urban riverfront greenways, the park was planned to provide safe public access to city neighborhoods and parks. Confluence Park is situated between two historic bridges at the gateway to downtown. A favorite spot for fishermen, it offers a handicap accessible pier, 10 foot wide paved paths, seat walls and benches. An overlook and entry plaza incorporate early American symbolism in pavements and plantings, and provide a venue for outdoor education. Interpretive panels offer historic references to this unique space. Project completed on time and under budget with no change orders. Received 2003 ASLA New York Upstate Chapter merit award for public space.
